Short Description
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Office of Administration Office for Information Technology (OA/OIT) is seeking a Senior Data Center Engineer (Dell EMC) to support the day-to-day backup operations (including a suite of EMC backup and recovery products) within the Enterprise Data Center (EDC) and Secondary Data Center (SDC) as a member of the backup team. The ideal candidate must be able to pass an extensive background check and must have 7+ years of experience managing Enterprise Backup environments and 5+ years of experience with the Dell/EMC Suite of products (Networker, Avamar, and Data Domain).
* A mobile phone/laptop is required for infrequent after-hours support and escalations.
* This position reports to the office 50% of each week with on-call rotation.
Required Skills/Years of Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience managing Enterprise Backup environments
- 5+ years of experience with the Dell/EMC Suite of products (Networker, Avamar, and Data Domain)
- 1+ years of experience with Linux operations and scripting
- 1+ years of knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems, Linux, and VMware
- 1+ years of experience providing emergency support and participating in an on-call rotation
- 1+ years of excellent verbal and written communication skills

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Office of Administration Office for Information Technology (OA/OIT) is seeking a Senior Data Center Engineer (Dell EMC) to support the day-to-day backup operations (including a suite of EMC backup and recovery products) within the Enterprise Data Center (EDC) and Secondary Data Center (SDC) as a member of the backup team. The ideal candidate must be able to pass an extensive background check and must have 7+ years of experience managing Enterprise Backup environments and 5+ years of experience with the Dell/EMC Suite of products (Networker, Avamar, and Data Domain).
The Senior Data Center Engineer (Dell EMC) will be tasked to:
- Support the day-to-day backup operations (including a suite of EMC backup and recovery products) within the Enterprise Data Center (EDC) and Secondary Data Center (SDC) as a member of the backup team
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge in supporting Dell/EMC Networker 9.x, Data Domain, Avamar, Data Protection Advisor, Data Domain Virtual Edition, and Elastic Cloud Storage
- Support a variety of Data Protection products such as IBM Spectrum Protect, Spectrum Key License Manager, and tape library products within the EDC and SDC environments
- Demonstrate technology competency and ownership ensuring reliability, availability, serviceability, scalability, and high performing solutions in the enterprise backup environment
- Enhance work processes and document operational procedures for the entire support team
- Ensure all backups are completed successfully within the required backup window
- Review daily reports on the status of backup jobs and provide management with dashboards that provide visibility into the overall operation and performance of the backup environment
- Develop and track procedures for tracking offsite tape storage, data restoration and recovery testing, data encryption, and disaster recovery
- Assist in capacity planning for the backup and recovery environments on a regular basis to ensure the planned and anticipated growth of the EDC and SDC can be accommodated
- Assist in the development and implementation of procedures regarding the EDC and SDC backup and recovery infrastructure consistent with customer requirements and client standards
- Maintain currency with technology in order to make recommendations to the backup team lead on the technological direction of the EDC and SDC backup and recovery infrastructure
- Develop plans for the upgrade of backup software to ensure supportability across all servers within the EDC and SD
- Ensure proper security controls and backup/data recovery systems are in place for all EDC and SDC servers and storage
- Manage the EDC and SDC Data Protection advisor implementation, which includes creating reports and monitoring backup jobs across the EDC and SDC environments
- Work closely with the server, networking, database, and storage teams to ensure compatibility between all components in the environment
- Perform other related duties as assigned, to include those outlined in the Continuity of Operations Plan (CoOP) when the Plan is activated
- Respond to the designated alternate or secondary location when directed in response to a catastrophic incident
- Provide emergency support and participate in an on-call rotation as needed
