The State of New Jersey’s Department of Health (NJDOH) is seeking a Junior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support the architecture, design, documentation and maintenance of internal databases and related systems. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of Oracle database administration experience.
* This role will convert to some days work from home each week.
Required Skills/Years of Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience with Oracle 12c and later edition
- 7+ years of experience with managing Oracle database in both Windows and Linux environments
- 7+ years of experience database troubleshooting performance and tuning
- 5+ years of experience scheduling jobs in oracle environments
- 3+ years of experience configuring and upgrading APEX in oracle
- 3+ years of experience applying excellent written and verbal communication
- 1+ years of experience migrating data
Desired Skills/Years of Experience:
- 1+ years of experience using AWS or Azure

Complete Description
The State of New Jersey’s Department of Health (NJDOH) is seeking a Junior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support the architecture, design, documentation and maintenance of internal databases and related systems. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of Oracle database administration experience.
The Junior Oracle DBA will be tasked to:
- Assist senior DBA in daily activities and eventually performing below listed tasks independently
- Provide Oracle Database Administration support for production and all non-production environments as per program' and application team’s requirements
- Ensure the availability of databases on a continuous basis
- Perform production support tasks including installation, upgrade, migration, backup, recovery, administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, High Availability, capacity Planning, security etc
- Manage SQL Server in Windows and Oracle database in both Windows and Linux environments
- Create database-related bash/shell scripts and programs to backup, recover and support development and production environments
- Periodically test backup and recovery processes
- Set up data guard or standby environment for oracle and SQL Server databases
- Set up production/development/test environments and refresh data as per application/program/developer’s requirements.
- Set up Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, Oracle Management Server and Oracle Management Agent
- Deploy Oracle Agent to target database servers
- Implement Oracle and SQL Server Advanced Security features like tablespace level encryption, certificates, TDE etc.
- Create and maintain documents for all database related tasks
- Work with state OIT for DOH's database requirements' implementation and maintenance
- Work with third party vendors to set up, maintain the databases and their corresponding configuration on DOH servers; work with them resolving technical database related issues
- Work with Oracle support teams to resolve problems in the database environments, create service tickets and follow it up later until a reasonable resolution is found
- Upload documents and information as and when Oracle Support requests for the same while troubleshooting
- Plan, test and implement migration of databases to other servers
- Create specific DDL for migrating and transporting data from one instance to another or from one host to another host
- Plan, test, troubleshoot database patching for both oracle and SQL Server installations
- Plan and analyze space requirements on different servers for different databases
- Create SSIS packages in SQL Server environments to automate tasks and dbms_scheduler jobs in oracle environments
- Work with the Network, Business System Analysts, Application DBAs and Internal Development teams on database related tasks
- Configuring APEX in oracle and Reporting Services in SQL Server
- Create database-related bash/shell scripts and programs to support development and production environments
- Research, evaluate, design, test, recommend, and plan implementation of new or improved RDBMS and database tools
- Perform other duties as assigned
