Short Description
The District of Columbia’s Office of United Communications (OUC) is seeking an IT Support Specialist (Public Safety) to provide IT support services on the 911/311 operations call floor and act as a Subject Matter Expert of a specific (often specialized) application technology with demonstrative ability to convey both technical and functional concepts. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience conveying technical and functional concepts for a specific technical specialty.
Required Skills/Years of Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of conveying technical and functional concepts for a specific technical specialty
- 5+ years of preparing complex technical documentation
- 5+ years of providing technical diagnostics, troubleshooting, setup, and configuration
- 5+ years of responding and troubleshooting end users’ technical concerns
- 5+ years of diagnosing and repairing peripheral equipment as needed
- 5+ years of tracking and escalating open technical issues in a public safety IT environment
- 5+ years of providing technical assistance improving program designs and operations
- 5+ years of supporting application functionality and access
- 5+ years of providing determination between network, hardware, and software issues
- 5+ years of desktop imaging, deployment, packaging, and break/fix services
- 5+ years of analysis and documentation of preventative maintenance and technical processes
- 5+ years of technical writing (drafting standard operating procedure documents)
- 5+ years of process improvement
- 3+ years of providing IT Support in a public safety environment
- 3+ years of planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities
- 3+ years of leading projects, ensuring they are in compliance with established standards/procedures

The District of Columbia’s Office of United Communications (OUC) is seeking an IT Support Specialist (Public Safety) to provide IT support services on the 911/311 operations call floor and act as a Subject Matter Expert of a specific (often specialized) application technology with demonstrative ability to convey both technical and functional concepts. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience conveying technical and functional concepts for a specific technical specialty.
The IT Support Specialist (Public Safety) will be tasked to:
- Provide IT support services on the 911/311 operations call floor
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert of a specific (often specialized) application technology
- Assist/lead special projects as requested by the OUC
- Be responsible for project oversight, application management, cost analysis, and overall system functionality
- Support the system or network (LAN/WAN, etc.) and monitor applications for availability and performance as needed
- Demonstrate expertise in conveying technical and functional concepts for a specific technical specialty
- Identify improvements to project standards to achieve high quality services/products
- Coordinate programming activities conducted by the application development team
- Confer with other business and technical personnel to resolve problems of intent, inaccuracy, or feasibility of computer processing and project design
- Work with necessary personnel to determine if modifications are necessary
- Leverage excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop new business process and programming solutions as directed by business and technical stakeholders
- Coordinate activities of application developers
- Identify best practices and standards for the use of the product
- Perform hands-on technical design and code work within large complex systems
- Perform hands-on technical work with a variety of technologies
- Integrate a variety of diverse technical environments and cross-platform technologies
- Deliver support and design for industry specific applications that require integration with statewide systems or applications
- Interact with executive level business users or technical experts
